These Horse Works were used by the Naracoorte District Council to prepare chaff for working horses.

Through a series of cogs the wheel the horse works turned the wheel that powered the chaff cutter.

Horse works were also used to turn separators in dairies which were numerous in the Naracoorte area in the 1920’s. The separator separated the cream from the milk to make butter, etc. There was also a butter factory in Naracoorte.
