Kingston station was a popular stop in the summer

To escape the heat of summer, picnic days were planned for the beaches at Kingston. A train would be booked, and discounted tickets were made available for the day. Hundreds of people from Naracoorte and other locations on the track would converge at Kingston station where they were met with trucks and buses to carry people to the picnic.
